.avi file formating,converting,co- and decompressing
do you know a good tool to edit .avi file?i have to co- and decompress very large and medium size files(200~500 Mb and 1,5~4 Gb)

the compressor is only available as trial version though.
otherwise I'd recommend googling for anything that is able to encode a video file into mp2 or mp4. at university I use the programm Compressor for this, but that's a mac only software, don't know which to recommend for windows though.

Once compreassed there is no way of bringing it to the original state, there will be loss of quality and it's simply not worth it, movie maker does a good job but if you need to be a little more proffesional but not too much I recomend Sony Vegas Video, the xvid codec does a decent job on compression as well and I understand it's free.

It depends, what format and degree of compression are the 1gb files, if they are uncompreassed you can bring 10 gb into 100 megs, reducing the bitrate will give you compression that's tons better than what you need the question is how much of the quality you want to compromise.
