Can some one tell me how to get the IRC thing to work? please?

think a chatroom on steroids, also pretty much the chatroom's great grandfather.
some use it as a method of transferring files, as opposed to, say, torrents, direct download, usenet, but most it's just used for talking.
there's different servers, which all in turn have different channels, you won't, for a lot of servers, it's free to make your own channel, MD's is one of those, but rarely used.
