baldur's gate

Postby Azgarth » Mon Mar 05, 2012 4:59 pm

http://www.baldursgate.com/

has been up again for a few days. looks like beamdog (the studio that made the good mdk2 HD remake) owns it now, is working on a baldur's gate project, and is spearheaded by one of the original black isle workers.

i'm guessing remake, possibly even using the original engine (though hopefully with the extensions by fan mod/patch tobex).
not usually a fan of remakes, but this one has me psyched. i only hope it won't screw too much with the still massive mod community. or the gemrb project that's trying to rebuild the engine from scratch and have it work on multiple platforms (can already play bladur's gate 2 on android with it, for example).

Tried it a while back. Not sure why I wouldn't just play Diablo II.

diablo 2 is a great hack and slash dungoneering game, and very fun online.

baldur's gate has a story better than most fantasy novels, is built on the ADND system, so involves tactical thinking, has a lot of roleplaying opportunities, has a party system with very interesting partymembers, and has an interesting, intricate and for its time very lifelike world.

baldur's gate compares to diablo as the total war series compares to DOTA.

Duly noted. I'll give it another shot when I actually own a computer.

if you're willing to put the hours in (and you WILL need to put the hours in), try a megamod, big world project combines most.
in it is, among other things, BGT, or baldur's gate trilogy. it lets you play baldur's gate, its expansion, baldur's gate 2 and its expansion, all in one go on the baldur's gate engine.
not sure how much easier it is, but BGT should be doable on its own as well.
