Rogue-likes

Postby Davion Fuxa » Mon Jul 16, 2012 6:43 pm

Been getting back into Rogue-likes recently. Specifically to name a few -

Dwarf Fortress (Adventure Mode is Rogue-like at least)
Diablo III (May be Real-time but it's close enough for me to call it Rogue-like)
Desktop Dungeons Alpha
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup
Castle of the Winds

Also played some browser games as well - Like the new Monster's Den as an example.

What are Rogue-likes you have play/continue to play?

Holy fuck, Castle of the Winds? If I'm not totally insane, isn't that the 90's shitty-awesome annoying as fuck/ can't stop playing game?

A quick google search says it is! I love that game.

90's! You do the game a disserve, the game was made in the same decade as Rogue don't you know! (COTW was made in 1989)

A reminincist about the game a bit and I've also done a few Let's Play videos of Dwarf Fortress recently. Specifically I started Dwarf Fortress because of how it looked similar to Castle of the Winds so I figured I should give it due praise by doing a Let's Play of it.

I've been on and off with Fortress Mode. Not a bad game, that. POWDER is where most of dungeon crawling goes, though.

i don't know if it counts as a pure rogue-like, but i fucking love FTL. i was pretty heavily addicted for a while.

i also bought binding of isaac like a year ago but haven't got into it yet.

Been playing Faster Than Light on weekly broadcasts on Twitch. All games on Normal Difficulty - sometimes I win, sometimes I lose.

Have yet to unlock the Crystal Ship, but I think I have Type B Layouts all unlocked on the other ships, and I mostly have wins on at last over half of the possible ship combinations.

Twitch Channel can be viewed Here!

Update - I Unlocked the Crystal Ship, so I will probably play with it Sunday (A Surprise for non-MD viewers though)

When are you usually up btw, I sometimes do 2 separate streams with one earlier in the day and one after dinner around 6 or 7 EST?

Not sure if you are around, but I plan to begin my Let's Play in a short bit. Will make a new post when I'm done perhaps.

Yet again I will start another run in a short little while. I'll make another post when I conclude it.

Done with live-streaming today - sort of lost the will to play correctly after the game crapped out on me.

I'll do this again next week anyhow if you want to try catching me again then.

About your first run - I missed the boss fight, but it was nice seeing you suffocating the boarding parties. One of my favourite tactics.

Whelp, I can official be called a Completionist Whore for the most part in FTL.

As of now I have unlocked All Ship Types, All Ship Layouts, and have Complete All Achievements - Bar BOARDING OBJECTIVE SUCCESSFUL which seems to be bugged. All that is really left is to get a win on every single Ship Type, maybe do All The Ship Achievements, and figure out how to get around the Bug for the last Skill & Equipment Achievement that eludes me...

How long did it take you? I've seen Wayne playing it a lot but he never got so lucky as to unlock the crystal ship.

It is all a matter of luck when unlocked the Crystal Ship - the stars literally must align and you don't know when that might happen. Time is literally irrelevant because you could get lucky and get Damage Stasis Pod, Zoltan Research Station, and Rock Homeworld Crystal Gateway very early; or you might not.
