In a real debate, politicians would 'talk in circles" anyways =P

EDIT: On top of that, most politicians don't have their own opinions. They have subordinates that gather facts and data, for them, so as to not "waste" time researching their arguements.

Another rebuddle, and I'll break out with hard facts then (Pretend like the second post never happened, and debate this):

Video games have been known to carry addictive properties. Like any person fiending for fix of something, gamers walk around with a constant 'twitch'. If there are certain games they become attached to, a hardcore fan can become distracted from a real life situation because of it. They pay less attention to their surroundings and others, making it harder to absorb what is being input. This type of detachment could become even worse with the younger minds. Adolecent development tools, such as Leapfrog, being able to promote educating kids further, are really just setting up the next generation with an unhealthy dependency for electronicaly interactive academics. The best way to learn to read is through a book, not by "driving the motorcycle over the letters". It's allowing parents to pay less attention to their childs intellect, as they might passively pawn off reading to their children in favor of giving them a game, and going about their own business. Video games can also create a lack of sociality with the outside world, although they do make it possible to network with other gamers. Often, however, players are speaking mindless giberish and slander toward one another, further depreciating the value of proper communication skills.

Any entertainment medium "has been known to carry addictive properties." Even books, which you suggested, can be a distraction as they were for me when I was in school (and for my brother who also becomes distracted by them in school).

Programs and tools such as "LeapFrog" are not the problem, they are the solution. In a modern market where everything is trying to get your attention, it is an answer to how to keep a younger child entertained through what usually is a boring experience. It sticks into the child's head that education can be both entertaining and fun. The same logic applies to children's books and nursery rhymes before them. In fact, all through history people have been using what they can to help children learn to enjoy learning: Aesop's Fables, Dr. Seuss, Sesame Street. These modern day uses of technology to teach kids is just the next step.

It's also a very positive one for our modern day lifestyle. More increasingly humans have come to rely on computers to live their modern lifestyle. Because of my interest in video games at a young age, I asked for a computer to play them on. Now-a-days, I have what some would say an above-average know-how on computer usage because of my interest in them at a young age, which stemmed from my love for video games.

Haha - Thankies. I most likely will.

Nice, yes - Until I get pissed. Then I show off my full-fledged Scorpio attitude.

I'm like that cute squirrel on the side of the road that you just threw a nut to. Better hope that nut didn't hit me.

So are you really going to sit there and tell me that reading a math equation out of a textbook is just as entertaining as having a computerized voice sing and correct your every mistake? Ofcoarse books won't be AS fun as video games. This is WHY I emphasize the detachment so much. Kids should be less enforced that life is rewarded by entertainment, in the first place. It creates a more open minded viewpoint of the individual, as they have been conditioned not to always invest interest and apprehension into just those methods that offer the most shock value. I would suppose that introducing interactive electronic media at the young adult stage would be fine, but allowing children to overuse such strategies possibly will create defensive behaviors when it is time to seperate them from their "toys".

...yeahhhh stuff like that here isn't really put up with. If it goes on too long threads get trashed by The Man.

Although I should clarify, what one person might see as flaming another might see as heated debate. We let a lot slide. It simply goes without saying (or not - I havent read the rules in a while) that if you act like an idiot you're reprimanded by your peers.

Usually we let it slide but if all you're doing is flaming and not contributing anything beyond that, you will start getting noticed and there may be consequences.
