This forum is not meant to be filled with mindless praise.

Your intro post has a good title, mediocre content, and disgusting replies from other noobs who just don't get what this site is about.

How old are you people, anyway?

The title of the topic is great - Pink Floyd is amazing. (Though there are better songs by them than Another Brick in the Wall Parts 1-3, IMO)

Content wasn't long enough to be rateable, as far as I can see, much less as even mediocre. (No offense)

Surprised you haven't offed yourself? I'm 17 too, and I know exactly why I haven't. It's selfish and cowardly. Period.

What are some other songs you like by Pink Floyd?

suicide is NOT cowardly, nor brave for that matter.
it's just the final way out when you see no other(or no better) option.
as soon as my life stops being positive(positive as in: either me being happy, or spreading good stuff to those around me(knowledge/hapiness/strength/whatever), i'm gonna kill myself, and i recommend others to do the same.

So if things are hard for a little bit, you'd rather give up than try your best to get back on top? Sounds cowardly to me. It's not just the final way, it's the easy way sometimes, too.

fuck that, i've been depressed, i'm happy as can be now, but AFTER i got happy, i realized something.
life has no value.
a life means nothing, a life that has something positive, either for the person living, or those around him/her, that means something, that has value.
why would i live? if i was unhappy, and brought nothing good to those around me?
no, i'd rather just stop, stop the game, see what death brings, if it brings anything at all.

death, like life, is a choice, why is it cowardly to choose one over the other?
choosing death is not giving up, it's preferring something else over life.
right now, i prefer life, and i probably will continue to do so until the pain i've had since birth will become too much for me, which i doubt will ever happen, however, the moment i'm not happy, nor see a happy future, nor bring something positive to those around me, i'm gone.

"hard for a little bit" is weak, if you're depressed, seriously depressed, and have thought it over, and then STILL decide to off your self, i wouldn't see a problem.

I see suicide as a legitimate means of euthanasia; however, I myself cannot foresee myself resorting to that road unless my situation was completely hopeless and helpless.

Even if I were suffering from a terminal disease, I would force myself to bite the pain up until the end, just as a matter of personal pride and discipline. I might even request to occasionally be taken off painkillers. Furthermore, I would want to squeeze every last second of my precious remaining days, and wring out every last drop of my creativity onto paper, and wouldn't want to cut them short until/unless I were literally paralyzed by the disease and could no longer continue to pour out my thoughts in writing. Even then, I wouldn't resort to suicide until I could no longer even speak (to dictate) at all.

Thank you Anarch, that is exactly my view. Well, mostly. I sketch more often than write, though I enjoy writing immensely. Sadly, I don't hold a high opinion of my own writing and like my sketches more.

Azgarth - We're clearly seeing from different views. I'm an atheist, and therefore for me death is nothing and is therefore no choice. Though yes, I did understate the potentiality of the strength of severe depression. My opinion stands regardless. I doubt we'll ever come to an agreement.

krahl, how is
I see suicide as a legitimate means of euthanasia; however, I myself cannot foresee myself resorting to that road unless my situation was completely hopeless and helpless.

in line with what you said? you said suicide is weak, nowhere does he say that, he says HE wouldn't do it, he in fact said, like you can read, that it was " legitimate means of euthanasia".

also, i'm atheist as well, no need to swing that around, it doesn't matter, i view dead as dead, nothing there, just absence of experience of life.
but sometimes, that could be preferable, not to me, i live, and i'd like to keep it that way, but i know people who'd rather be dead, and i do think they should die, and at least should have the right to without being berated about "weak", it's not weak, sometimes it's just the smartest option.

death itself can be a choice, even if you see it as the absence of life, just like you can choose between eating a cookie and not eating a cookie, you can choose about living life or not living life.

since when is this about getting to an agreement? it's just fun.

hypo, that's ok, but i want the royalties.
i'll even bury you, if you like.

Well if it's completely hopeless and helpless, as in no chance of coming back, and you stick it out to the point where you're basically a vegetable...

I'm just not always amazing at articulating my opinion.

I didn't mean to swing the religion/lack there of around, I just assumed - bad idea I know - that you thought there was something waiting in death. You still consider it a choice, I still don't. Not eating a cookie involves certain things even if not a cookie. Death does not, IMO.

I was just commenting that we're not going to agree any time soon. And yes, it is fun.

Hypo - interesting idea...

if you can choose between a life of pain, real pain, 24/7, resulting to spasms fairly frequently from the amount of pain, or not having any of that, just absence, what would you choose?
i chose living, there's plenty of good stuff in the world, but i can imagine others wouldn't, sometimes it's just not worth it.

and there's just people that have a chemical imbalance, borderline syndrome for example.
it's all to do with outlook, but if you're not happy, why live?

For the topic of Suicide:

The best strategy of life would be go suicide when being about 50. That way you'll won't have to suffer the matters of being old. Atleast that's MY opinion.
