GODDAMN. STOP CHATTING ON THE BOARDS.
On the subject of languages, I'd rather learn Arabic than Japanese.
Arabic is interesting to me for two main reasons. For one, the vocabulary is absolutely vast. There are apparently over eighty words that signify the English word "lion." For another, the language uses "inflection" instead of "accidence;" accidence is what European languages use, where words are conjugated and declined with suffixes and prefixes, whereas inflection is where words are conjugated and declined with vowel changes. There is some degree of inflection in classical Greek, which shows up in the fact that the words "legion" and "logic" are etymologically related, and there is also some degree of inflection in modern English, such as in the words "write/wrote," "fight/fought," "take/took," etc. In Arabic, however, it's found all over the place, in just about every word. (Also, they say the Qu'ran has some of the best written verse in any work of historical literature, and frankly, I'd like to read it in its original text, rather than through English translations. I particularly like the Second Surah, in which it frequently makes reference to people being "blinded and deafened by the thunder and lightning of God," which is very different from the Western perspective of thunder and lightning as more of a force of pure destruction rather than as an instrument of "blinding" and "deafening.")
