You also can't properly write 1/7 in all digits. It's impractical.

"X" and "Y" (or equivalent symbols) are digits in the duodecimal system, dumbass. They represent the decimal values of "10" and "11."

Digits are numbers. Period.

Having more than a one digit number stand for a single digit seems absurd to me.

I know by base-10 decimals pretty well, for 1 to 1/10, and 1/16, except for some like 1/7. I can figure them easily, my brain works that way. It doesn't work the base-twelve way.

Yes, I read that.

I still say that X and Y are variables and should remain that way, and that my brain works with base-10 but finds base-12 incompatible.

I very well could use "§" and "&" if I wanted to. This is a number system that hasn't been standardized, so we can use whatever symbols we fucking want, to represent 10 and 11. Please, PLEASE try to understand this. For your brain's sake.

By the way, if you guys are having trouble adapting from Base-10 to Base-12, I can't even begin to imagine how badly you would try to adapt to a Base-2. I guess you guys should stay the fuck away from binary. :lol:

Seriously now, try to imagine someone adapting from a Base-2 decimal system to a Base-10. They'd probably think the numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 were just as unnecessary as you guys seem to think X and Y are, but you can't imagine how you'd get along without them. If we were living in a society that used Base-12, you wouldn't know how to get along without X and Y.

If you can learn to use a Base-10 system, then you can learn to use a Base-12 system. It's as simple as that.

The fact that arbitrary symbols can be used is another reason it's impractical. Who ALWAYS knows which stands for which?

Base-2 is NOT non-digits.

You just don't get it, do you.

In the Base-12 system, there are TWO MORE DIGITS than there are in the Base-10 system. You have to come up with two more symbols for them.

Likewise, in the Base-10 system, there are EIGHT MORE DIGITS than there are in the Base-2 system.

I'M JUST USING "X" AND "Y" AS DIGITS, HERE. I COULD BE USING ANY OTHER SYMBOLS.

THEY ARE DIGITS, IN A DUODECIMAL SYSTEM.
