Actually, you guys, Napoleon wasn't French. He was Corsican, a Frenchman only by the technicality of Corsica having been annexed by France shortly before his birth. His first language was Italian.

I haven't read any biographies in depth about Napoleon, but I understand that he was always the outsider, considered a second class citizen, when he was young, because he was not born on traditional French soil. You, I imagine, are not so rejected.

It depends on what he considered himself. I imagine he did consider himself French later in life, but who knows how he might have felt early on when he was younger. I got the impression that he was only French because his home island was annexed, and not because he and his family actually wanted to move to France and become French citizens. You, on the other hand, actively moved to the United States. It sorta depends on your perspective, I guess.
