Sol wrote:The reason some don't consider the ages of 18 and 19 as adolescence is because you are legally an adult, can marry by their own concent, own their own property, etc.

Like I said, it varies between people/nations/ethnic groups.

i know that, but do you really think a person still in school, or just finishing high school is an adult? what kind of money were they making to be able to afford to get married or buy property? in my eyes, until you're 23, you're not an adult.

I think you are considered an adult at the age of 18, that doesn't mean you are a successful adult yet. You are just ABLE to get married or buy/obtain property, even though you might not pull it off too well.

And you are how old?
I think it funny that you have not yet reached this age yet you lay claim to it's mystical properties.

I agree with Ashreal. You can't know when you're going to stop feeling like a teenager and truly start feeling like an adult until it happens. I used to think 18 was adulthood til I turned 18. Now, at 19, I see I was a lot more immature than I even thought then. I still don't think I'm an adult yet but I'm getting closer.

I'm just looking at it from a teen's perspective, I'll learn what you have when I reach where you're at.

i'm 13. i've seen too many 18/19 year olds fail at life just because they got cocky, moved out their parents house, dropped out of school, and couldn't afford a crumb of bread.

but, your right, people are different.

This makes sense. Legally in my country anyway. I'm not sure why Krishh thinks its unusual or cocky but most people move out of their parents houses when they're 18 or 19 and technically an adult, but it takes a year or two, depending on the person, to adjust from kid to adult in terms of maturity, I think.

Legally, people are adults when they're 18.

People are only truly adults in my eyes when they accept responsibility for all actions and consequences.

There are so few adults, in that case. I think you're an adult when you're fairly stable in your life outside of your parents' home.

I attribute adulthood to an understanding of proper moralities and the concept of responsibility, as well as the ability to self-sustain. I can't put a specific age to it, because I loathe the concept of age.

I accept responsibility for inventing the telephone and nascar.

And that's why GC can do whatever he wants, because if it wasn't for him, you mother fuckers wouldn't even have DSL nor a cheap and effective propaganda method.

GC invented the telephone and nascar.
Phones are used for DSL.
Nascar is cheap effective advertising.
Duh.

I like this definition, but only cause it makes me feel like an adult :D I think theres more to it than that, in terms of interactions with the world outside your parents.

If that's the case, then I'm not a child (or adolescent). Am I an adult, just for realizing I (along with everyone else) am going to die?

I don't see that as adulthood. Eight year olds could figure that out; would that mean they are adults?

It was meant as tho you are realising your own mortality, and have the need of doing something with their lives.

(probably should have added that.)

That's a pretty good way to put it.
