Because you can only know so much about something without actually doing it, because we are both interested in combustion, and because it beats vegging out to bad TV and junk food.

I know a little bit about homemade explosives. Like fireballs you can hold in your hand.

Get some cherry bomb fuse from a hobby store. Get an empty milk jug, poke a hole in the cap and stick the wick through the hole. Seal it with clay or any putty ... chewing gum will work. Light an oxygen/acetylene torch and adjust it for optimal flame. Blow it out and stick the end in the jug. Give it a good thirty seconds then slap the cap on. Turn off the torch.

Light the fuse and run like hell. :_)

Wow, that's at least mildly uncreative. "Take something MADE for burning, put it in a container, put a fuse in the container."

I like making my fire instead of buying it prepackaged.

OR

Go to a decent film rental store, get some amazing DVDs and those little fish shaped marshmallowey things, make coffee, get friends over and have a perfectly nice time without having to be all American and blow shit up.

You lost me.

I like to stay home and cuddle with my girlfriend while watching tv. I'm still pretty god damn American.

Isn't that EXACTLY what you are doing anyhow? I fail to see the difference.

I know it makes a nice loud explosion. :_)

At one point, through a combination of household chemicals, a friend of mine made an explosive from fairly innocuous devices. I can't remember it at the moment, but I know it involved Windex =/

If I remember my chemistry you can easily make hydrogen with lye and aluminum foil .... very explosive. :) We used to put a balloon over the glass opening and it would fill with pure hydrogen.

@Voly: You are not a pyrotechnics professional. That's all I have to say.

I know I'm not. Professionals get paid. I work for free.
