Why won't this filetype work on any of my media players. One only plays the audio, and the others "require additional software to play this type of file".
Is there a player that will play this or would it just be simpler for me to get a converter, and if I were to get a converter what filetype would I want to convert to?

when i read this i was SO thinking PMP's, turns out you were talking about on your computer.
damn, otherwise i could've recommended most cowon players.
anyway, wayne's totally right, VLC is usually the best choice.
i've gotten problems with some (HD) films with it, so for those i use GOM player.
both use their own codecs, unlike say media player classic (also great) which use those on your computer. that means that you need to have codecs installed for certain filetypes, and codec packs are a bitch on your system.

VLC works just fine with our downloads.

CCCP fixed it.

codec packs are usually hell on your pc in the long run voly. slow it down like mad.

are you questioning MY solution?

I'm still using it wayne. Saves me the trouble of uninstalling it and finding (or not finding) vlc.

VLC is overrated piece of fat floppy titties, my Windows Media Player works better.
Codecs > All-In-One media players

most codec packs slow your machine down, installing induvidual codecs is a bitch.
but if you do that, then mpc > wmp.
and if ANY player tries to be all in one, it's wmp.

VLC sucks....... -.-'
I just want to add, if anyone else gets this problem, you can just get the DivX player which comes with the DivX plugin (which is .AVI and .Mp3) so it will play .AVI files on their own also.

... way to give any merit to your comments there mate.
also, the divx player? are you MAD? it's bloated, it gives you stuff along you DON'T want or need, it's a resource hog, it only supports a few filetypes.... not good stuff.
if you don't want to use VLC 'cause it's too mainstream or anything there's stuff like GOM or KMplayer, hell, use media player classic if you want...

DivX is okay...
It comes with some pretty good features...
As for using the player itself, you don't necessarily have to use the DivX player to use the codecs it installs.
You can watch .AVI using the codec DivX installs on other media players.
That's what I did- because my PC came without the .AVI codec (for some stupid reason).
The DivX player itself does pretty much suck though, but has some good codecs.
I don't like VLC because I always run into problems with it and I don't like it's features.
It's just not my thing. but there are many others I guess...

I'm a simple guy. I VLC was the first media player I found with zero bullshit. It plays DVDs and video files. Good 'nuff. I tried DivX, but hell if I could ever figure out what was going on with it.

if i want to use a certain codec, i'll get the codec, not a player that happens to pack the codec.
read my prev post as to why the PLAYER is bad, as for the codec, not that special.

But it has some codecs including .AVI is what I was getting at =p
For some reason, the .AVI codec wouldn't download for me, something went wrong, I can't remember though- it was a while ago. So I jsut got the DivX player.
The only thing I like about the DivX download is taht it has the codecs and it has an HD converter.
