my ipod's acting up.

my ipod isn't a computer, but this is the best place to post.

so, the other day, i plugged in my earphones into my extremely old ipod video. popped the earbuds into my ears, and, holy moly, the right ear doesn't work. i moved it around a bit, and the right ear worked for a couple seconds. i put the earphones into my walkman, and they worked just fine. so, my ipod's the problem. WHAT THE HELL DO I DO?!

you tried another plug?
this sounds like a bad connection between ipod/'phones, and while the ipod may be the main cause, the phones cord has to be worn down at least a bit from use, sometimes another will still work.
if not, you're pretty much screwed, unless you're willing to open the case and are able to solder.

i've tried three other headphones, same deal.
i want to take it to apple to have it fixed, but that might cost a lot of moneys. :(

If you're sure the headphones are fine then the stereo jack in the ipod is broken. You can try to insert the headphones and move move them a bit in the jack, that might clear up the inside of the jack, it could simply be dirty not broken.

If it is broken it just needs to be replaced, you can search for a replacement jack on ebay and get an electrician to replace it, you can do it yourself but you need a hot air soldering gun.

Here we have "GSM service" shops, these shops have the necessary tools to replace a jack since they do the same thing for phones.

It couldn't hurt to take it to one of these repair shops (if there are any around) before buying the jack, they might diagnose something else.

this thing is ANCIENT.
i went to the apple store today, made an appointment, and, on my way home, it kept freezing for 30 mins at a time.

i feel like i'm making a faithful, old dog run laps. it's really trying to work, i can feel it overheat. *pat pat*

:(
the part that needs to be replaced costs about 50 bucks, and the repair itself will prolly cost 50, too.

it's time for this old dog to be put down.
rest in peace.

on a happier note, my brother bought me a replacement ipod off of ebay for 70 bucks! wooh!

That's where I've gotten both of mine. I can't stand the newer models. I've gotta have something that feels sturdy and reliable.

I <3 my 30 gig.

So, was your replacement an upgrade, same, or downgrade?

Mine, I charge it fully but within 15 minutes it dies.
What's up with that?

Sounds like it needs a new battery. That one's shot.

same-grade, and mine's a 30 gig video, too!
faithful stuff, man. it went through three years of my careless sister and two years of me.
