The Snap

Postby HeRetiK » Fri Dec 07, 2007 3:54 pm

I've got lots of work at my neck, but I've finally been able to finish my latest cartoon. It's a tribute to the wonderful quirky music of Mouse on Mars and... well, losing your mind and connection to reality.

So here we go, let's watch The Snap

OMG! That was fuckin trippy! I love it! But the random egg in the skillet? Still, The animation was very smooth and you timed it with the misuc really well.

It might just be me, but it gets tiring to watch after all. It's a lot of random images synced with a repetitive song and it has no point at all from what I could tell. But, for me, random =/= entertainment.

But it was pretty.

Mwahahaha! :D

It's there because I knew that people would wonder enough about the egg to ask about it.

"Dancing penguins? A color-changing butterfly? Ya sure, why not. But an egg in a skillet?!?"

Wow, I love that one.
Most of the stuff you did recently was more experimental, which is not really my genre at all to be quite honest.
IMO this is the best one you made in a long time.
Just like Darky I don't like the music at all, way to monotone and repetative for my taste, but in combination with the animation it's more than OK.
I wouldn't be surprised if they requested to use it as their music video :-p
I really enjoyed this one, great work.

P.S.: Gotta love the penguins :-D

I have wanted to do a video featuring dancing penguins for a long time. I just never seemed to find a proper context. until now.

I suppose that experimental stuff is not always the most interesting to watch, but it's really fun to make. And right know I just need something more intuitive and recreational, where I can just freely animate with the beat instead of taking care of the fabric of a story.

Yet again this one actually has a story:
"Guy on sofa hallucinates, goes nuts and has a seizure."

Well it probably is better to practice and learn more with fodder such as this rather than something with a little more depth.

But it also seems to me that all you ever do with movies is have animation that goes along with music. I'm curious if its because its all you care to do or all you know how to do.

Cool. I know it's not comparable but I liked Glanzstoff better.

What did he eat ('cept eggs)?

Brilliant randomness. Yet again, I like the cooherency between the cartoon and the music beat. Your bunny character reminds me, a little bit, of Happy Tree Friends. And ofcoarse, that damn sarcastic bunny rabbit you see on bumper stickers.

This is truly an instant Mindistortion classic. I think it should be remembered with the same fondness that is afforded to War and Dependency.

...

And also, can you say LSD?

Although I liked the zestfully dreamlike acid-trip atmosphere of it, it does seem to get repetitive after a while - the penguins, the squirrels, and the happy flower seem to take up too much time as filler.

It's what I enjoy the most and where my ideas come from.
I've never tried writing dialogues (well except for the MindScape cinematics) and I'm actually not very interested in writing them. If I tell a story, I want to do this without words. It seems much more appealing to me.

The eggs where never meant to imply that he ate eggs. But I was already wondering what the first interpretation of the egg scene would be. Thank you.

Whoa :D Now that is one happy flash movie. I have always wondered how you are able to time all the visuals to fit the music so well. I've tried it a few times but Im lacking a sense of rhythm

Anyways, job well done!

You sir, are indeed talented. Flash would prolly try to eat my face when if I messed with it.

considering we've seen a slew of serious/experiemental movies from you as of late, this was a nice change of pace.

i thought the egg was a reference to bill hicks. "i've seen a lot of things on drugs but i have never, ever, ever, looked at an egg, and thought it was a fuckin' brain. not once."
