If there's a quick way to make MD a mobile friendly forum I wouldn't mind if you did it :)

I have a good enough browser on may Treo but GPRS isn't so fast, if it's a load of trouble don't bother, after all I can just increase my browsers catch size :)

enter the mindistortion URL there, it'll make it as mobile as google can for you.
not perfect, but should be good enough until hery manages to change it.

I know how you feel. I got ideas for websites rolling through my head every day, I NEVER get any of them done.

You at least got MD up and running :) I don't know what your traffic is these days but you should totally put Google ads on the forum, I actually found interesting stuff in them back when you had them.

I'm sure none of us mind, we enjoy this community, it has to support it's self somehow.

You ban websites with ADS? Why?

I mean, sure, block pop ups, spyware malware and all that crap, but google ads don't hurt you in any way.

And what would you prefer, paying for Google or Yahoo or Deviant Art and so on...

no,i don't ban the websites, i block the ads.
ads do two things, one, they show the site down, since you have to download those ads (and usually the ads are on a different server too, making it even slower), and second, they can be obnoxious.
text ads i'm usually fine with, but i blocked all in one go, easier.

I've got mixed feelings about advertising. On one hand, I dislike them as everyone else. On the other hand, it's the only way to actually keep stuff for free, other than also offering buyable extra features. Also I'm partly living on advertising revenue, so there's that.

I removed the ads from the forums because they were largely ignored.

The fact that they were generally ignored, coupled with the fact that you lose nothing by placing them here, should be reason enough to actually keep them.

TBH, if it was ads for MD, I would probably click on them once in a while. I know I do when I visit the main site.

Well, if you have nothing to loose put them.

People are anoyed with ads because they can't seem to understand that ads are the reason their getting a free service. Add financed web services are the best that can be, you get something for free, you don't ever have to pay a dime, and who knows, with a well placing add system like google's you might actually find stuff of intrest, I know I do.

Sure, the web could be without ads, but every forum, every email service, every blog would cost to visit.

i'd put per-view ads up if i could her.

ads are fine, as long as they don't break the flow of the site, make it take ages to load, distract, or annoy.

problem is most people use flash ads or hugeass banners and the like, and they suck download time and annoy to no end.
text ads are fine.

Fun fact: I have Adblocked anything with the words/phrase with "ads", and "ban" with the exception of Google.

They don't bother me so much. Most time the sites I normally visit, and like, have Google ads. Gotta support them somehow.

in my case they actually don't pay as well as google ads. also, with google i know that i can trust them that they ads are save and non-obstrusive. many other ad networks not as much. unless you're a really huge site you've got in most cases only little control over which ads are shown and you get a rather small cut.

gotta make some ad testruns again, one time or another. however there's no point in doing this until i actually get MD fully running again. meaning making regular updates again.
