Let's talk about...

Postby HeRetiK » Wed Feb 04, 2009 1:45 am

...alcohol.

I'm afraid that many MD members won't have much say on this thread because of the US silly alcohol restrictions.

Also, I'm aware how this is one of the most dumbass topics to talk about, but anyways. Maybe one day I'll go to a bar, run into one of you and then I'll know what drink to get you.

Favourite Beer:
Wieselburger (Austrian beer FTW)

Favourite Liquor:
Vodka (Stolichnaya) closely followed by Tequila (Don Julio)

Favourite Longdrink:
Vodka Lemon

Favourite Cocktails:
Tequila Sunrise followed by White Russian and Swimming Pool

Favourite Love/Hate:
Absinthe

I'm heading for the bar, so what can I get you?

I'm gonna break the format because I've not yet became a connoisseur.

I sometimes hang around these three guys aged 28, 21, and 19, so alcohol is always within my reach, despite these silly U.S. age restrictions.

All I've really had is Schnapps(Peppermint), which is alright but sort of unenjoyable at first, Champagne which is fun but not really a party drink IMO, and Coconut Rum, my all time goddamn favorite when mixed with pineapple juice.

@ Frosty - Caribou Lou!! = Malibu Rum, Pineapple Juice, and 151. Equal thirds works best IMO.

Favourite Beer:
Anything European compared to beer here. German beer is tasty. I like dark brews..

Favourite Liquor:
Hmmm.... Some o' dat S'murrnoff vodka shittt, niggaa!

Beer: Warsteiner.
It's really the only beer I like. I hate beer in general.

Favorite liquor: Vincent Van Gogh Double Espresso Vodka.
My dad bought me a bottle when I had my car accident because I 'handled it so well'. Should have wrecked my damn car sooner, neh?

Beyond that, I love to experiment.
However, due to past experiences, I will never drink banana or coconut rum. Never again. Just the smell of either makes me feel very ill.
Under construction. Or something.

I'm breaking the format as well.

My favorite drink so far...
Everclear 1/2, Bacardi 151 1/4. Jenever 1/4, and a Mezcal worm.

Favourite Beer:

Favourite Liquor:
Schapps.

Favourite Longdrink:

.. Vodka and juice of some sort.

Favourite Cocktails:
'Zombie.' For it has rum in it.

Favourite Love/Hate:

Any kind of wine. It is my loony juice - just two glasses and I'll be off my face. BUT I STILL DRINK IT. And port is lovely. It agrees with me more then any other sort of wine.

... I'm pretty sure I meant this.

Edit after scanning that article: Especially tawny port! :D

I have tried rosé though, again, something I'm not particularly into. Don't like the flavour.

I forgot to mention good old fresh home made wine, I don't make wine myself but several of my friends have grandparents in rural areas of the country who do, that wine is damn good.

Tiuca is our national vodka, best of course is home made by the same grandparents, usually tastes like the fruit it was made from, plums, pears, etc.

Best served somewhere in the mountains during and after a barbecue, cold mountain air, good booze, freshly fried meat and a good sauna plus a cold shower to top it all is how I like to charge my batteries (your girlfriend will also appreciate you taking this "treatment"... a lot ;) )

favorite beer is krušovice, but we also have a lot of great beers in Estonia, so I might have some Estonian beer depending on appetite.

also, I love wines (red and white only)

not much of a liquor man, but vodka and can jägermeister make good coctails (not mixed with each other)

no love/hate.

that's not regular wine, though, it's fortified, means a distilled fluid has been added.

I have began to drink alcohol a lot more often then I used to, I hope I'm not turning into an alcoholic :? but I'd love a cold beer right about now.

It's amazing how fast people turn into something they never though they would. I was joking about the alcoholic part, but I never thought I would ever smoke and here I am, I never though I'd linger over a cold beer. It's easy to extrapolate how a person could end up as an alcoholic, it just takes a few days of drinking more than usual, after a week, another few days and before you know it you have a problem.

Same goes for drugs I guess, human beings are so easily susceptible to these things. I also theorize that being a corrupt politician or a serial killer or rapist, happens just about the same way.

We have to watch ourselves carefully at all times and always think stuff through.

I know how you feel. Right now I got it somewhat under control, but sometimes there are weeks were a few drinks too much are quite common... critical.

Being preoccupied with something important helps. The sum of addictions in ones life is constant, I'm generally a workaholic, I'm only haunted by these thoughts when I don't have a lot of work to do.

Thus I am returning to my full time job the next semester, although job + school will be hard, I find I feel much better than having most of all days free.

And I drink a whole lot less beer :) right now I'm on the verge of having quite a beer belly :o

Laško (beer) and Puschkin vodka. 4-5 years ago I could drink just about anything to get drunk (the cheapest wine, beer or vodka). Also been drinkin' schapps occasionaly since my uncle was making it at home (still is). Another think we used to booze on was Y/Jeagermeister.
Damn, I'm glad those years passed.

The best beer:

a pint of Guinness, sitting in a crowded pub in Ireland, Irish music playing in the background. I think the atmosphere really helped, because Guinness is nasty in the States. I like Killian's Red Beer and my neighbor's home-brewed beer second-best.

Best Cocktail:

Margarrriiiiitas! My dad makes awesome ones and is teaching me how to make it.

I also like wines of most kinds, and I enjoy Bulleit Bourbon, especially when mixed with 7up.

Ah, humanity's top drug of choice.

Favourite Beer:
Miller High Life

Favourite Liquor:
Whiskey/Bourbon. Don't care what kind as it all tastes the same to me.

Favourite Longdrink:
I have no earthly idea what a Longdrink is.

Favourite Cocktails:
I'd rather just have beer

Favourite Love/Hate:
Moonshine. Tastes like sugar water, kills like a cyanide tonic.

Only silly to an extant. You have to understand that a lot of American teens show a little too much love and lack the needed respect that alcohol needs. It is often shown as the catalyst to a great time, rather than just an optional endeavor. It's more toxic than most street drugs, it impairs senses and perceptions, and it lowers inhibitions. And with a country of people that loves to drive their cars, it's also a drug that's able to cause as much damage to other people as it is to yourself, sometimes more.

So don't take so lightly our "silly alcohol restrictions". I'm not saying that you're wrong, just that there are some very good reasons for them to be in place.
