Postby some_body » Mon Sep 21, 2009 2:37 pm

the necronomicon, i have the rewritten copy.
Where can i find the actual deadric copy?
...and how do i open the 6 gates of Lazerai? (misspelled for a reason)
life scars us all.
some people where them on the outside,
others hide them on the inside,
but no one escapes unscathed.

Either someone's never read Lovecraft or they are trying way too hard.

Also, according to Lovecraftian lore, the only copies left are kept safe and hidden by Institutions and rich, private collectors.

I've never read Lovecraft, and I'm always trying too hard. Guess you must be referring to me.

Yeah, you've certainly never read any Lovecraft.

Look for this book:

Did you happen to know the book I was actually referring to? It was nothing by Lovecraft.

I hear its real popular, but I've never read it.

I finally got around to start reading the 'Wheel of Time' series by Robert Jordan and the plot is highly predictable. I don't understand how it could be placed so high on lists.

I started the same series and gave it up real quick.

I'm currently half-way through the second book. I hear it picks up around the third so I'll prolly read to at least the end of that one to see if I want to go on. Otherwise I'm going to buy this:

The man himself is a homophobe, though. He defines homosexuality as a sick habit, like drug addiction. (There were some personal essays mixed in with the short stories.)

Someone recommended Orson Scott Card to me, and I remember deciding to read the Ender's Game, but I think it was already on loan at the library at the time, then I remember being put off the author for some reason, probably because he's a homophobe, but I still wanted to read the book, then I forgot.

Anyone got any recommendations of which novel to start with?

Ender's Game.

Anywhere else and you've failed.

I don't like the author, but none of what he is about is really reflected in any of his works that I have read. Which are many.

The Ender Saga:
Ender's Game
Speaker for the Dead
Xenocide
Children of the Mind

The Shadow Saga*:
Ender's Shadow
Shadow of the Hegemon
Shadow Puppets
Shadow of the Giant

Standalone novels:
Wyrms
Lost Boys
Enchantment
Magic Street

*A set of parallel novels to the Ender Saga.

His works, especially the Ender/Shadow sagas, are among my favorite books of all time.

Homophobe kept you away? Lovecraft was an outright racist:

@Esch: read my post. A lot of people who made films, books and music have personal views I don't agree with, but that doesn't mean I can't still enjoy their work.
