Come join me in the spiral...

Postby HeRetiK » Wed Sep 15, 2010 9:46 pm

*appears out of nowhere*

I'm usually not much of a manga reader, but recently came across the wonderful horror stories of Junji Ito.

So far I've read Uzumaki, Gyo and a few other of his short stories.

Uzumaki is about a town with a sick obsession for spirals... madness, self-mutilation and bodily deformations have rarely been so gruesome and beautifully illustrated.

Gyo is about walking fish. Walking, dead fish... at least that's how it begins.

If this sounds good to you, go out there, google it, look for torrents or online versions, enjoy.

Haha, I saw the title, and immediately went, "Hell yeah, Spiral."

I love that manga - it's pretty hilarious to me. I've seen Gyo in BAM a few times, but I don't have money to buy it right now.

My friend has been telling me about this for a while and I told him to go fuck himself.

But if Hery says yes than I say ok!

Er. Um. Yeah. No. Cuz, why? Is there a point other than to being obscure?
Is there a promised land
Or am I on the journey going to nowhere?
Are the streets paved with gold
Or am I slipping on the mold that slowly grows there?

The Enigma of Amigara Fault. Its awesome.
This is quite a short one, but a good one nonetheless.

That's what got me interested in his work in the first place. His concepts are great or at least very different from the usual western horror.

I read some of Tomie, and couldn't really get into it, I think it's one of his older ones, the style isn't very polished... just started on Uzumaki and looks like it's going to have a much more interesting storyline. Also, Junji quotes Lovecraft as one of his inspirations. <3

Edit: Just finished reading the ENTIRE of Uzumaki and my god. I'm never going to look at pregnant women in the same way. My housemates wondered why I kept giggling/making 'ewww' noises and they thought it was extremely wierd. 8D I wonder why. I loved the story line... so many spiral connotations... the way you get hooked into the story line to FOLLOW IT TO THE END/CENTRE HOMG I might be obsessed. All in all thanks for that Hery, when my eyes can handle reading an entire series in three hours I'll read up more of his stuff. Also I think I may have reached some kind of net limit but it was worth it. 8D
