The deadliest war ?

Postby evilredqueen » Wed May 29, 2013 4:43 am

Ok China got caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

bad kitty .. bad!

This is certainly a two way street and I am sure they know that.

Let's devastate each others infasturture.

No ... it is the small country with little too lose that worries me. This not the first time but I think this will change the playing field a bit. The implications of total " Cyber Warfare " could be worse than any war mankind has seen to date.

They come like a thief in the night, silent , the effects are dramatic, they leave tracks but an Indian would have a hard time finding them .. who do I strike back at?

This is a world wide problem shared by all.

Opinions?

Small countries may have little to lose, but they also don't have the budget and qualified personell for cyber warfare. For a proper cyber attack you still need skilled people and money to pay those skilled people (thinking of really professional malware a la "Flame")

However, now that I think of it, there is a country after all that would fit in this profile:

Finland.

Frosty ... China hacked into both government and private industry and took designs for misslle weapons systems, the F-35 and other stuff.

Some of our known latest tech ... but Cyber warfare can be far more subtle ... such as turning out all the lights.

Hery, why Finland?

You said small countries worry you, I said the only small country with the money and skill to pull something off would probably be Finland! But Skandinavia is sort of the Canada of Europe, so it's rather unlikely ;)

Seriously though, cyberwarfare and industrial espionage is definitely happening and I wouldn't be surprised if the next World War will be lead by digital and economical warfare.

And there has been shit going all the time:

-) Chinese cyber-espionage of both private and government industries seems to be happening rather regularly (whether these attacks are funded by the chinese government or the private sector is a question of it's own)

-) The US NSA is actively monitoring major internet backbones so they probably have servers scanning your emails (in case you aren't aware of it, email is an inherently insecure form of communication)

-) Highly advanced trojans targeting the middle east, probably paid by goverment funds (now I wonder who's behind that one ;))

-) Highly advanced trojans infiltrating European government and government related industries.

-) Huge botnets controlled by private entities. The black market of personal data trading and digital sabotage is bigger than you might think.

We're living in weird times, my friends.

Just need to stuff my currency in a sack and live off the land a little while. Maybe it'll all go away.

That includes gaining skills that will help me in the event of a mass, long-term power outage. Outdoor survival, urban survival, transportation, soil and water conservation....

Hery .. very interesting video.

GC .. practice .. :)

This is the other new weapon of warfare ... supposedly the government has one that can deliver a small amount of a chemical agent. Imagine a million released over a major city.

My first attempt ... and I have no money :)

And after a bit of tweaking ... it flies !!! :)

Making fire with sticks is hard.

Regarding the flying insect drones: The last time I saw a report on those they were still dependent on an external power source (ie. wired to a grounded object) and hightly susceptible to even the lightest of wind blows. Definitely interesting project but still a long shot to practical use. (unless some sort of government or private entity is holding back the actual progress)

Hery ... You tube or Google MAV ... you may be surprised.

My little machines longest flight was 9:12 ... not bad for a battery the size of a postage stamp but one that the British Army is using ... looks like a whilte dovewill fly over 30 minutes. They have batteries they are not giving us !!!!

that's still a pretty big machine. basically the size of a proper RC helicopter, minus the rotor.

I'm talking about this thing:

Now that's an nanodrone. But still a long way to go.

This thread had eerily good timing. Congratulations on your government and the NSA guys and gals, seems like the US is worse than China after all...

I knew the NSA was doing fucked up shit as early as 5 years ago. But on the other hand, China (and any other nation) might be doing worse and keeping better secrets, so just think about that. In any case, I still feel safe walking down the street with a T-shirt that curses out my government. China, well, that's a different story.

I have to admit though, their work is pretty impressive. Flame [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flame_(malware) ] is like the Ferrari of malware. And that's only one of the few things that came to light. And even then about 5 years after deployment. I don't even want to know what else there is.

TBH I still think that the NSA has more dirt than China, but that's because I assume that the US has the better talent. I mean China has great engineers, but it was the US that developed SHA and AES which are fundamental cryptographical technologies.

The sad thing is, I think most other countries would do the same if they had the resources. Germany has/had plans for special malware to be deployed by their federal police, alas the company they hired was less skilled than the hackers taking the software apart so things leaked and escalated quickly. Gotta love the CCC. (Chaos Computer Club, a German hacker's alliance with international ties)

The worst part about this whole NSA scandal is that it's not even a scandal. 57 percent of minnesotans approve of the NSA's actions, while only 33 percent disapprove, according to a poll I saw in The Star Tribune the other day.

It seems that americans choose fascism.

Hi guys I thought I'd stop by. All of my opinions are already included in the posts of others, so I won't bother.
