Why is this happening ? I think a lot of reasons but for me if I bottom line it it is PUTIN !!! That dude gives evil a whole new meaning and I think we should all keep a close watch on him. IMO

PUTIN? Although Russia has a lot of fingers in the Ukraine, I still wouldn't pin it on him.

As far as I understand the Ukraine government is progressively undermining democracy (ie. effectively taking away their rights to demonstrate). Of course this goes hand in hand with being a shabby government in the first place, but what you see here is the last resort upheaval of a people stripped of their democratic rights.

I pin it all on him .... he breaks all the rules and yes has fingers everywhere.

He is certainly anti-American and always changes the rules to fit his needs.

But ya .. it is all about freedom. Which one did we lose today?

Putin's fault¿ I'm still confused. But damn, those rules look turrible. I heard some chatter about people in the vicinity of Kiev getting a 1984-esque warning through their cell phones' SMS, something like "You have been marked as a participator in a mass protest."

There are no gay people in Russia. I fear a lot of people will die during the Olympics and most will be Russian citizens. How sad. We should pull out.

All I am saying is watch Putin .... lots of shit gonna go down as long as he lives.

You mean kinda like the street children that disappeared in preparation to beijing?

I fear that there are some cooperations that are more necessary to be watched rather than putin. monsanto, nestle, jp morgan, goldman sachs to name a few. there's a lot of lobbying going on in the backrooms, both in the US and in the EU, and it's neither in the interest of the people, nor in the interest of the economy but just in the interest of the respective cooperation. beware the men behind the curtain. what used to be the church and the state are now the cooperations and the state.

No, I think we're facing a whole new breed of economic pragmatism, with little to no regards for business ethics.

You people act like corruption and greed are a new thing.

And its not one family or just a few trying to own the world. Its people acting like the animals they are. You have money, and you want more. More is good. I must protect what money I have, so I must have power. For power I must have control. Look at this, power and control gets me more money. Well, I need more power and control to protect my more money.

Its not 'evil' anymore than acting in your own interests is 'evil'. I'm not saying its 'good' for humanity, but this is how civilization has been ran for thousands of years. Revolutions have never changed that, they have only changed the hands of who has the power and control. Even in democracy you still have the power of the majority. It will always be 'us' vs. 'them', whether by divine fate or evolution, its part of what has made us who we are.

Its never going to change. Fight the power all you want, but the only salvation for you and your progeny is to buy in.

More like I've just become apathetic with the whole struggle. You read enough history, you come to learn a bit about human nature. Not to say the future won't be any different, just saying that every great struggle made by the populace against oppressors has done little in the long run to change how things are ran. Its game theory gone to its extremes.

On this message board? Has it not been the same drivel for the past few years now or is it just me?

At times I feel the same, only that I feel less apathetic and more misanthropic. Working on your mindset helps, but I've definitely gotten bitterer over the years.

I think there's a quote about history not repeating but rhyming, which strikes very true to me.

Spaced Ape wrote:Its game theory gone to its extremes

Socioeconomic constructs are fractals within fractal of games. I hope that one day mankind will get it right. I fear that the solution will require a change of ethics that nowadays society would never be able to handle (in either a "bad" or a "good" way)

I used to feel that way, but I've always considered myself a bit of a cynical optimist. There is good in almost every person, and not in some stupid warm and fuzzy spiritual sense. I believe altruism and morality are embedded within our genetic make-up, part of our evolutionary growth. I don't think we could have made it this far without it.

There may always be those who are either born or bred without this kinship. They may exploit others, perhaps even ruining lives. They may head Fortune 500 companies or dig in the gutter for food. But I believe they are the exception to the rule.

In the long run it doesn't really matter. There's no goal, positive or negative, for humanity to reach. Perhaps Siddhārtha was right in a way, that the meaning of life is to stop suffering. But would that ever be possible? I have my doubts.

Yeah, I'm starting to think the only way to peace is either absolute control or death.

A beneficial dictatorship then? Not sure, I just don't think that a) driven to the extremes, such a world wouldn't be worth living b) single points of controls can't be trusted to not abuse the system.

I maintain that the ideal form of government would be a constitutional monarchy under a benevolent king.

That's great until the monarch dies and you have a war of succession and end up with a not-so benevolent one.

[...]in a technological superpower of a country, that can sustain the life of a single human indefinitely, or create an artificial intelligence, comparable to a human's, and of perfect benevolence.

Is it clear I'm a Technological Utopian?
