Unfortunately yes and thanks to a probation officer who made me look really bad in front of a judge I may be here a while yet.

But they may have won the battle but the war is not over.

You really should come at least visit central Texas, especially Austin and the surrounding area. You may have a strong view of what Texas is like, but its really just a whole bunch of different cultures and areas all mashed into one big pot.

Here's a well known video that, while I don't completely agree with how he describes the different areas, at least gives you an idea of how different these cultures and areas can be:

Though when he says Tex/Mex like the food, its more than just that. Truth be told I rather enjoy the Hispanic influence in the area, it gives it a bit o' flavor that other traditionally southern states lack.

I think there's something for everybody here, you just gotta find the place that suits you. Unless you can't deal with the heat, in which case you are fucked unless you live in the tip top of the panhandle, but you might as well live in Oklahoma at that point (blech).

I think you'd love it. Except for the traffic. Apparently some idgit thought running one of the busiest highways in America through a major city was a great idea.

There's a 10% chance I'll visit Texas in my lifetime.

I'm a New Yorker...

We like sidewalks and street vendors... not deserts and food stands

GC .. where did you come up with a number like 10% ? lol

You were talking about looking for work in Africa ? I'm sure you will find a hotdog vendor on every street corner. XD Hope you get to travel some.

The beaches looked awesome ... while in Florida I much preferred the Gulf side .... simply beautiful. I don't think I would choose to live right in the big city ... somewhere close. I do not like traffic !!!

Ash ... the queers ... queers ... seriously? .. and steers don't bother me. It would be the cowboys that I would have a problem with. Please tell me they don't wear spurs into the bars. :)

Do you seriously think Texas is all desert and food stands?

http://goo.gl/ISReaX

This is what it looks like where I live. Sort of, as I live in San Marcos which is just on the edge of the Hill Country. Everything to the east of here are plains of grass until you hit the pines.

You like sidewalks? Austin is not but 15 miles away.

We got a bridge with the largest mufuckin' urban bat colony in the world:

We got food stands AND street vendors. We like it both ways because we're not uptight like you yankees who can't take half a minute out of their day to make a choice between the two.

Not unless you're going to gimmicky country bars. I'm not really a bar kind of person, but this one is my favorite: https://dirtydogbar.com/ I've never seen a spur in there.

I forgive you :P

I just love it out here and it kinda bugs me when people see Texas in a certain way, but never care to look beyond the stereotypes. To be fair there are some parts that can get pretty arid-like but you gotta go pretty far west to find it. And there can be quite a bit of cowboy culture in some places, but most of it is fake and most people treat it as such. Unless you're a real ranchero, and those people you won't see in the city.

And I was just joking about the yankees thing, and I know you're in the rustbelt part of NY anyway.

I'm pretty sure most landmasses that meet the ocean have beaches. I'm not sure why you somehow thought Texas would be the exception. Did you think we were land-locked?

Supercool. I was by myself for a few days, no other campers. Then the weekend hit and all hell broke loose. But at least I was with my girlfriend friday thru sunday!
