Focus

Postby Zapoten » Thu Feb 17, 2005 12:30 am

I'd like to know how I can make an object appear out of focus in Flash MX.

Any help would be appreciated :)

I believe you would use alpha on it to change its density
ie: make three off one object and put one at alpha 10% in a large area(105% on scale), one in 50% in a smaller area(100%on scale), and 30% in an area in between those two(103% on scale). then mask all three of those with a layer of grey at 5% alpha

[this attempt sucked so I removed it]

for a finer look dont use outlines and use more layers

My first attempt was with alpha, I couldn't get it to blend in a natural way. There is a definite possibility that it's my technique at fault though.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try it.

Edit: Yes, that is the look I want. Thanks again.

theres a better one
i just used 7 different symbols that were all "focus"
put one at fifty percent alpha and then put each one a little less and put them all in the same place
then move each one a little, each in different directions

and presto, its out of focus

export the pic you want to get out of focus as a jpg or png file (if you want it to be in the foreground i recommend png), open it in adobe photoshop or a similar image editing program, then choose filter => blur => gaußian blur
then save the file again as jpg or png, import it into flash, make it a symbol and voilá, there ya go.
