My Portfolio: The Gilded Chair

The To and the From

Looking down, over the hillside,
The rocks standing tall with the loom of shadow standing taller,
We crept along.
The bus moved at a pace I could favor,
Its slow turns edging along, trying not to fall, or to fall farther,
We made our way.
She sleeps beside me,
Her head on my lap, her hand held limply in my own,
Farther down.
Dark gray clouds swirled,
Moving through the trees and over the mountains, lazy but not alone,
High above.
Broken trees and bare branches,
Scorched clean by the brittle wind of a winter's life,
Spread around us.
This will be a good day,
I sense it in the stillness confounding the movement we don't realize,
That engulfs us.

BTW, I've decided to stop making a new topic for every poem and/or short story. They'll all be posted here. Yay, space saving!

its*

And your rhythm is pretty choppy for a subject like this. Make it more beautiful.

Prolly not, since it's already written elsewhere. Unless there's a specific request for one, which I'm doubting.

And yes. Good advice.

Turning

Turning, Turning, endlessly turning, these wheels that slow and pause but never stop, giving rise to the notion that we live, that we move, than we can make and we can brake, Turning, this chariot of delusion; and a pause, "Can I help you?" asks the headless man and "Fill her up" he's told and fill her up he does, life dripping into her iron gullet until her is full, her is alive, but who is her but we inside her and who is we but her innards, but that thought escapes me and the headless man is turning, Turning away to live how he deems, where he deems, alone, as he deems, as we deem, turning, Turning, endlessly turning, slowing and pausing but never stopping, never resting...

A Glance

It was after Guitar class, third block, when I found myself a mystery
Looking through a place where one shouldn't be allowed to see.
It stared at me long and hard and never blinked a once,
So I took this chance to look back,
Hoping
Just hoping
To catch one glance. And I did,
Fleetingly, I saw, it run across my vision.
White brick lay red brick, but not red of its own kilning,
And the sunset's orange cast a light at the mid of day to sky
That should have struck my blind from something
Akin to beauty but not.
Voices of others filled the hall, and I looked away
From my mystery.
They won't dare look where I have, and it won't care to see them.
Let's hope this ignorance does not bring forth
The cowardly thing that I glanced. Mystery, I called it,
But I fear a better name.

Lifestyles

"Would you like more," she says, standing so proudly in front of the boy,
with a spoon in one hand and a pot in the other of the night's repast.
"Yes," he answers, no please to be found, no ma'am, no thank you
mother. It is unimportant, it is lost, she feeds him more.
Platter piled high with spoonful after spoonful, he cannot help but gorge himself
on her food, on her hospitality.
"Is it good? Do you want more? How about another steak? A growing boy needs to eat!"
And he does not even need to speak this time, for she knows, she knows,
more is necessary, more is given.
"Eat, my boy, because you are growing, and a growing boy needs all of the food he can get!"
But one day, the boy will be a man, and the food will be his life.

Carnival of Rust

Wheel sitting

without moving in

a patient reverie

of things

that have transpired here

in the past. This

is a Carnival,

A Carnival of Rust,

of lust, of life, of

time lost in

A void. Nothing.

This is my

past and

my future,

slow. It creaks.

This is life, this is

lust, this

is love.

And the coaster

coasts

rails groaning in

support of its tread

and the

melancholy love of

two machines.

Nearby hisses one

lonely cotton candy stand,

its Point lost

to this, this

Carnival of Rust.

Perhaps it feeds a

History

a mass we

will never know.

And the Carnival,

This Carnival of Rust

knows.

You should try organising your lines into stanzas. Also, meterrrrrr.

Ew, meter. And they are in stanzas, just not measured ones :P

I wanted to try a new rhythm with my poetry, and I'm not sure how it turned out....

Unlike my other recent poems, this one is more of a personal piece than a deeper view or a warning or a global application analogy. Hope you enjoy it.

The Gilded Chair

I stand behind you, with this chair the only thing that separates us,
and the only thing that supports you.
You placed this chair here with all the driven purpose I see in you,
the purpose that I've grown used to.
It holds you and it looks good around you, with that gown that makes
you seem so radiant.
I can not resist offering my unwanted assistance in some small way
else I am impotent.
While you hold your meetings and address all of you kin from within
this gilded chair that bars,
I'm standing behind, eyes scanning across each of the curves and graces,
from the crown to arms.
Should I see but the slightest of blemishes, I'll react with the speed of lightto remove any detriment to your chair.
It is the only thing I offer, because where I stand is only where I am,
from which I can only ever stop and stare.
