Feeling the music...

Postby HeRetiK » Sat Sep 01, 2007 11:37 pm

I came home about an hour ago, after an evening which didn't help my current emotional instability much. Ending up in front of my computer, just another night like so many countless nights before.

And all of a sudden shuffle spits out "La Noyée" by Yann Tiersen... my spine shivers... my blood stream gets flooded with warm fuzziness... I close my eyes and everything feels good, beautiful and warm, despite the personal mishaps that happened lately.

Ever had any moments like that? And if yes, which song?

Also, I'd like to point out that I'm still hetero. k?

in fact, as i was just reading that, i got the feeling... but i wasnt listening to any music. i was listening to a podcast.

Edit

then again, i dont listen to easy going music. the only remotely normal and easy going band i listen to is kaizers orchestra (which you have gotten me into with that one animation) and around here, that's not even that normal

Acid Food by Mogwai has always been able to calm me. And Life by Devin Townsend has always had a connection to me since I first heard it.

this has happened to me with a lot of bands/artists. pink floyd's "wish you were here" was a good mention, as is devin townsend. a lot of ambient (boards of canada in particular) and "post rock" (pelican in particular) is good for this kind of stuff.

I'll agree with the Pink Floyd nomination. Another song that will usually jolt familiar feelings is Metallica's "One". I can just recall alot of tense moments in my life to that song, including blasting it in the locker room on game day. Also, Mudvayne's "Happy" was the song I playing on the radio at my senior parade, and alot of events passed come to mind.

Oldies = Angst?

Irrelevant. I mean those songs in particular, regardless of age or genre, sound rather angst-ridden.

Lighten up, I was just taking the piss. I dont think youre emo or anything ^^

Two can be as bad as one
It's the loneliest number since the number one

Yes, it's the saddest experience you'll ever know
`Cause one is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
One is the loneliest number, worse than two

It's just no good anymore since she went away
Now I spend my time just making rhymes of yesterday

One is the loneliest, number one is the loneliest
Number one is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
One is the loneliest, one is the loneliest
One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
It's just no good anymore since she went away
(Number) One is the loneliest
(Number) One is the loneliest
(Number) One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
(Number) One is the loneliest
(Number) One is the loneliest
(Number) One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do

I don't think that's very angsty at all. It's a ballad, it's not whiney at all.

The Turtles wrote:So Happy Together

Imagine me and you, I do
I think about you day and night, it's only right
To think about the girl you love and hold her tight
So happy together

If I should call you up, invest a dime
And you say you belong to me and ease my mind
Imagine how the world could be, so very fine
So happy together

I can't see me lovin' nobody but you
For all my life
When you're with me, baby the skies'll be blue
For all my life

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it has to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together

I can't see me lovin' nobody but you
For all my life
When you're with me, baby the skies'll be blue
For all my life

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it has to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together

Ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba
Ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it has to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together

So happy together
How is the weather
So happy together
We're happy together
So happy together
Happy together
So happy together
So happy together (ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba)

And that doesn't sound very angsty either.

Something gives me the impression you've never actually heard these songs if you think they're angsty in any way.

i've had such occasions, bands i know it occured with are notwist, simon & garfunkel, sad kermit, paco pena, paco de lucia, don ross, andy mckee, pink floyd, if im down, they at least let me be statisfied with how it is, from that, i usually jump to something like slash's snakefarm to "drown" in the music, once i'm in, i can cope with pretty much anything.
