Electronic Music

Postby HeRetiK » Sun Nov 18, 2007 12:20 pm

During the last few years my listening habits have shifted more and more towards electronica. ( Metal > Industrial Metal > Industrial > Electronica )
Technically it all started with Aphex Twin, who always lingered in the back of my mind (see system interrupted) but I didn't listened very much to his works until about 1-2 years ago.

Either way, I was wondering if anyone else in the forums is listening to electronic / electronica / IDM?

Just a bunch of interprets I'd like to mention that I personally enjoy:

Mouse on Mars

Squarepusher

T. Raumschmiere

Daft Punk

Venetian Snares

And there of course Aphex Twin and a bunch of other artists but dinners ready so... pfff.

:wumpscut: is made of win.
Hmm... Modeselektor's great if you like the stranger stuff
with a bit of hip-hop influence.
Infected Mushroom's got some good stuff, too, and Royksopp's
good if you're looking for something a little more downtempo.

Now links to videos because the school computer doesn't
allow YouTube. XD

I can understand that you haven't heard of Android Lust, they're awesome but new and totally American. But you never heard of :wumpscut:? They made HUGE ripples in Germany and Europe. How can you not know of them?

I've heard of wumpscut and I actually got 6 albums. But I didn't have a reason to listen into them as of now. That's the curse of having a huge mp3 library.

Be selective of which tracks you listen too. Most of their stuff annoys the hell out of me. Like Skinny Puppy they have extremely good tracks or dull annoying ones. Listen to each song and get rid of the ones you dislike.

And look into Android Lust more. That song doesn't even begin to show how great their music is. It's just the most awesome video.

Skinny Puppy tend to have tracks with extremely cool first 30 seconds and a repetitive rest. I like them nonetheless though. Also they give a good live performance.

Not really Electronica, but could still be interesting for one or the other:

IAMX

And while I'm at it:

Peaches

"electronic" is a very wide umbrella, so i'll just list my favourite artists from the more beat-orientated style that this thread seems to be leaning toward. i'll try not to mention artists that have already been said.

download (skinny puppy spin-off)
boards of canada
autechre
gridlock
clock dva (very influential band, precurser to the "ebm" off-shoot of industrial)
haujobb
front line assembly
autoclav 1.1

and i don't listen to them much anymore, but for people who like wumpscut and the like:
suicide commando
aghast view
velvet acid christ

Velvet Acid Christ has some cool tracks, but I got bored of them very fast.

Theres been some fun times with Concord Dawn. Arent they a Kiwi band? Band that got me into Electronica would probably be Atari Teenage Riot, but I moced on to cleaner Electro from there. I hate people who confuse Electronica with Techno.

Concord Dawn?, they are Electronica/Dance with slight DnB, style i can tell that for sure...
and yes good point, Electronica for sure is not Techno like some ppl say.

Diabolika wrote:Prodigy?

I started with them when i was young. I can tell great band, but they have all music styles not just electronic, for instance: techno (yes true), rave, some kind of rock (punk or some hardcore?) and many more...
