Fear Factory

Postby Spaced Ape » Mon Nov 26, 2007 9:01 pm

I know I can't be the only person on this board who likes this band. I'd say if I had to name a favorite band of mine, this would be it. And I'm talking about pre-Dino leaving. Current FF (apart from maybe one or two songs) are shite. But classic FF nothing holds a candle to it in my tastes.

Their the only band I know with albums I could listen the whole way through without skipping a song. I've never gotten tired of overplaying any of their songs.

Don't get me wrong, I will admit they do have some flaws like Burton Bell not being able to match his voice live near as well in studio, but that's really not exclusive to them.

Linchpin was actually the first song I ever heard by them.

We see no end to the dream
We will never see the end
We will never be the end
All of my life I felt discarded
Never feeling a part of it

That verse itself held me together through some tough times in my life. (Don't ask me why, music just effects me in that way. I'd even go so far as to say without this sort of music I would have ended myself by now).

"Can't Take Me Apart... No You Can't!"

Also, their song Shock is good. And their cover of the song Cars.

EDIT: And their song Edgecrusher. pretty much anything off their "Obsolete" album.

I'd say Demanufacture > Obsolete.

Fear Factory was one of the first bands I ever saw. And after all these years I still have across only few bands with a comparable moshpit density.

Also, one thing you really should do is listen to Fear Factory during a tempest/storm while driving on the highway. Fear Factory was made to be listened to while lightning bolts are all over the sky.

Yah, and they also have the only remixed album I ever liked.

Nope - You're definitely not. I didnt know about the band until I heard the song, "Bite the Hand that Bleeds" from Saw, but the next day I went out and bought the album. (which is something that I normally don't do. I usually would use my slow dial-up to download the music).

I fell in love with the vocals first, then the lyrics, then the guitars. Really nice to listen to when I'm ready to strangle people.

I'm sorry to say that "Bite the Hand that Bleeds" is the only song I've heard by them...

Recommendations for best album by them?

<shrug> Must there be a method to the madness?

There's just something about FF that fits right with my head. The music I listen to at any given point in time varies with my mood, but FF is the one band that I can listen to no matter how I'm feeling.

Another thing is that every single bit of their music has perfect timing. Every single riff and chord and soft vocals and hard vocals and drums comes in and out at exactly the right time. They have a very machine-like sound and feel to (most) their music.

Though to those who said they were introduced to FF by the song "Bite the Hand that Bleeds", while it is an okay song it's not really a good representation of who FF are (and once were). Some songs I would use to introduce people to FF are (in no particular order):

Demanufacture
Zero Signal
Body Hammer
H-K [Hunter-Killer]
Shock
Hi-Tech Hate
Linchpin
Byte Block
Slave Labor
Drones
Archetype

This is by no means a best-of list, just songs that if someone asked me to burn a cd to intro them to FF I'd use this.

what, exactly, was the point of that post? i don't understand why you would take the time to make a post here if all you're going to do is let us know how much of an ignorant twatface you are.

I've had two tracks for ages but not been sensible enough to buy an album... this needs fixing, as I love the tracks too much. Slave Labor and Drones I think. I may go for Archetype first off.

They are good songs but late in Fear Factory career and this was after FF got back together and left the original guitar player out of it. Dino was the hammer of FF, and in Archetype while it sounds the same a lot of the more metal sounding FF is missing.
