1. sell guitar
2. buy banjo

or buy an instructional dvd for beginners or something, might help.

I can't play stringed instruments, especially not stringed instruments with frets. It just doesn't work for me. I've tried and failed miserably.

I can play the piano however, and quite well. And I have yet to find out if I would be any good at a drumset.

Who here can play guitar, by the way? Just wondering. (I would assume most of you.)

Not you specifically, but in general. Hilton ought to be deleted from the gene pool.

you could start studying music theory, but that would probably get you bored pretty quick, I think it's best you search the internet for basic chord shapes and song tabs and learn some of the easier songs a la nirvana, white stripes or whatever. Still, the important thing about playing is to have fun.

Put a poster up in your room with all the guitar chords on it. It will make you seem like a newb to real guitarists, but chicks will dig your musical "inclination".

My dad has one of those. He's an amazing guitarist. I have no idea why he keeps it around.

Well, the idea behind the poster is to keep it hung up next to your guitar, for a quick reference sheet. I actually have a flip book index that lets you flip to a certain chord and practice the fingerings on paper, first. Although I still can't get them right, I know this book will help me learn how to transverse chords better, when I do have the talent.

Seriously.. Sometimes people need to practice what they're practicing.. Especially if you have esentially no hand-eye coordination, like myself. =P

1. learn how to read tablature (it's really easy)
2. learn chords
3. learn practice techniques
4. learn scales

start playing and practicing songs that you know, that are simple, at first, like vileem said. there are enough tab websites out there to get you started. then eventually move on to more complex songs. it's advisable to practice about an hour a day.

i used to play but i don't anymore. i keep telling myself i'll pick it back up, but i never do.. i'll make that album some day. i swear it.

yeah.. you can try to find guitar lessons on the internet, and get books
i think to learn theory is always a boring, but good thing.. learning chords, scales and how to read tablatures too.. but don't forget pentagrams !!
anyway there are programmes for pc like GUITAR PRO that are very easy and useful.. try to download them !! helps a lot
Yes there are two paths you can go by..
But in the long run
There's still time to change
The road you're on..
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
