But I don't care for any band with a "message". It tarnishes the music and makes it feel like it's selling something.

It's like calling a commercial jingle "music".

So, if a musician wants to express something they believe in strongly through their music, it ruins the music? You shouldn't assume they're pressing their beliefs on the listener just because they write christian music.

esch, you're grouping "propoganda music for christianity" with "music made by christians, that has personal beliefs in them", those beliefs, of course, being christian.

do you dislike rage against the machine for being against "the man" in a lot of the songs (you can replace ratm with an arbitrary amount of bands, if you wish, seems populair)?

do you dislike a shitload of metal because of satanic themes?

a load of punk for being straight edge?

all celtic music for being, well, celtic?

almost every single musical piece ever made that says something the creator thought needed to be said?

plenty of music has a message, whether it's "love life", "love good sex" or "love jesus".

if the music is made just as propoganda, then i can see your point, not agree with it, but i can understand.
however, music with a message that happens to be pro-christian? why the hell not?

it's not, i'm an atheist, and i can relate to some parts of the lyrics of some bands.
there's plenty of christians that see it as a metaphor.
there's plenty of christian bands that just use "don't damage others" in their lyrics.

but even if it is for you, so what?
there's more to a song than the lyrics, there's the vocal sound, there's the instruments (did we have this conv before, or is that a mindscrew on my end?), case in point, that song is great, the lyrics are mean as hell.

we've had the convo about vocal sound/instruments vs. lyrics before, not a mindfuck on your end. and like i said then, i value lyrics over vocal sound only if i can clearly hear what they are saying. so that is pretty much only excluding extreme metal/noise and music in other languages. do you know any christian bands like that?

i just don't fuckin' like metalcore in general, let alone christian metalcore. but i will give anything a fair listen, so if anybody feels like enlightening me, feel free.

I like these guys a lot, they're not Christian, and not so much metalcore.

and by "feel free to enlighten me", i didn't mean give me a list of shitloads of bands i can't honestly be fucked to check out. link me to, or send me tracks, like i said.. i will give it a fair chance.

esch, in light of previous post, there's not much i can say, you've got some (in my view weird) preferences, and that's it.
weirdness doesn't matter as long as the person that prefers likes it though, so have a ball.

Sorry Wayne. I didn't know what you meant when you said "do you know any bands like this?"

Actually, I just didn't know you wanted me to do anything specific. I was telling you bands like that. Whether or not you like metalcore had nothing to do with it. You just said any bands that "you can't tell what they're saying".

Sorry for that. But only about half of those are metalcore.

Yah, but the thing is most hip-hop has a message. So that's why I said almost.

well i did say "extreme metal or noise". "do you know any (christian) bands like that?" was more of a joke. (although i do know of one "christian black metal" band, which is a bloody oxymoron imo) being a metalhead i can understand at least partly what metalcore vocalists are shouting, and considering most metalcore bands have clear singing parts as well.. i just don't like metalcore, man.

it would help if i knew what the others were. PM (or IM) me further about this.

I changed the title of this thread so I don't have to make a new one every time I go to a show.

I'm seeing LifeRuiner on the 11th. I'd put a flier but I can't find it. I'll do it later.

UPDATE: I'm not going, I'm saving my money for Fallout 3.

Both? Why does anyone tell anyone what their beliefs are?

Why do people tell people their beliefs at all? Its no one elses business and religion is something that can/should be kept to yourself.

Well, in my opinion.
