American censorship makes me laugh like nothing else.

Take the censorship of the word "Jizz" in "Jizz in my pants" for example. Its the context they have the problem with, so censoring the word itself is just stupid.

And with Krishhs example of censoring "drunk" and "fourteen", you're probably going to get the gist of whats going on from the rest of the song once again, so censoring those words is futile.

But 'fourteen'? SERIOUSLY? When did a number become inappropriate? They didn't even bleep out 'breast-ests' or whatever the hell it was in the fifth line or so...

I think they already have a list-some-fav-songs topic. This is just for current mood. Which mine would be:

My favorite is when they censor the word "asshole". They leave the word "ass" but censor "hole".

that, too. in 'god damn' they censor god and leave in damn. that confuses me.

It's because some people think it is blasphemous to say GOD damn something. But if you just use the word damn it isn't a big deal. The fundies get pissed off if you have their lord condemn something to hell though. I don't think it's a big deal but I've had former coworkers who did.

No, it's because it's ONLY used as a curse in that context. I can say damn all I want, and as long as I don't use it as a curse, then it's not.

The fact that nobody in music uses damn as anything but a curse obviously doesn't matter, though.

And while we're on the subject... there is a question I have been struggling with recently, and perhaps one of you may be able to help me understand it.

Why do people ask for help when they won't accept it?

Could it be they're only looking for a specific person to offer help? That's the most logical thing I've been able to come up with. Anyway, I uderstand that there's a few psych majors/minors on here (though anyone else may respond)... anyone got an answer?

We'd need to know a hell of a lot more about the person or situation to answer a question like that. But off the top of my head I'd say they're whiny attention seekers looking to fill the void daddy left.

^ that. Or it may be that they don't want help , per say, but merely for other people to emphasize the opinion they already have. They just want you to say what they already think.

What Zyn added was what I'd been thinking also. But if someone asks for help it seems less like they want affirmation and more like they want someone doing the work for them.

As someone who used to do it ALL THE TIME, they want you to give them further reason to think their life sucks, or to agree that their life sucks more than everyone else's.

Generally, these people's lives are not bad.

The situation I am referring to is more emotional than "I wish someone would help me with my homework" or something.

This has actually happened to me about three times now (with three different people), that I've offered help (recieved a variety of responses), but in general they did not accept the support I was offering. Due to this, I've begun to think the problem is with me and not with them.

I suppose that I should just stop trying, but still... in the most recent situation, the girl asking for help had seemed almost suicidal, and I felt that if she had done something to inflict self-harm I'd have felt guilty for not saying anything.
