ICHI THE KILLER

Postby Astica » Thu Oct 29, 2009 11:15 pm

Caps locking cause its awesome.

This film is quite graphic and intense (I say that now when I have a whole weekend of more intense films to look forward to). It doesn't try to force you into any perspective or tell you which main character is the protagonist, which makes it even more awesome. I just loved the way everything unfolded, and even though I felt quite a lot of vicarious pain by the end of the film, the characters were awesome and I loved that it didn't change anything to help the viewer, it just moved on. By which I mean it epitomizes the idea "slice of life".

Watch it. Seriously. Then post about how great it was.

Ichi the Killer was one of the weirder films I've seen. Plus it features Shinya Tsukamoto from Tetsuo, which is the weirdest film I've seen (parts of in class, I need to rent out the rest of it). I need to see Audition, too. And you need to see Ichi the Killer :P

Ye olde moving picture.
Is there a promised land
Or am I on the journey going to nowhere?
Are the streets paved with gold
Or am I slipping on the mold that slowly grows there?

Quite odd, very good though, although that CGI part, in half... ( i try not to spoil it for those who havent seen ) was pretty terrible, otherwise good film.

Watch OldBoy. That's fucked up, more than Ichi imo, better film all round to.

@Kex: Oldboy is pretty awesome. They're very different films though. What CGI part of Ichi are you referring to? I don't really remember anything that could be described as "CGI in half".

@Rusty Nails: why did you hate it?

@Chara: funny coincidence. Apparently the lead actor was married to the popstar Chara for years.

 Yar I already knew 'bout that. Also mentioned this film to someone at work and right off the bat they mentioned oldboy. *adds to list of films i should watch.
And my god is this film fantastic; I watched this when I was trying to rid myself of the flu but I love the humour.. STILL need to watch the second half when I get the chance... which brings me on to...

"CGI in half".

He meant the bit where the super horrible murderer splits 'somebody' in half, he's saying it was a bit... old looking and not well done. See, lookie there, I gave away nuthin'. I thought it was awesome and appreciated it in the same way I appreciate the old star wars technology wherein; 'it's all on a piece of string.'

It to me seemed pointless, i have seen other movies like this one and liked them but this one just sucked.

@Rusty: what other movies?

@Chara: yeah, it looked a bit cheap in some places but you have to work with what you've got, I guess.

@Topic: I don't know why everyone brings up Oldboy when this film is mentioned. Sure, Oldboy is a good film, but it has absolutely less than nothing in common with Ichi the Killer. They aren't even from the same production crew or country.

I downloaded this movie a while back but still haven't watched it. Takashi Miike made it though and he also made one of my all time favorite movies. Sukiyaki Western Django. A Japanese spaghetti Western with Quentin Tarantino in it.

^ Takashi Miike is awesome. He also made Happiness of the Katakuris, which is ultimately just absolutely ridiculous, thus worth watching.

i know i know, names sell. advertisements lie.
he's not even that great an actor himself.
might see the film later though, looks interesting enough.

^Watch Ichi the Killer instead :P

Shinya Tsukamoto had a role in it, he's also a director/actor. He did the Tetsuo films and Tokyo fist, the latter of which I have not seen but which is apparently more well known than Tetsuo. Oh, and its Ichi's thread.

He may have a "cameo" in it. But it comes out to about ten minutes or so of film and he does play a semi-significant role in the actual story.
