Avatar 3D

Postby evilredqueen » Tue Jan 12, 2010 3:25 pm

There are many places on MD that I never post or even look at because I simply don't have the time. This winter I am bored as fuck.

Anyhow has anyone else seen Avatar in the new 3D? This was the most awesome thing I have ever seen. The future of movies for sure. The movie itself was ok but I want to see it again just to experience the 3D effects. I am sure I missed much because of course I was watching the movie too. Next time I see it I want to concentrate on the effects more than the movie.

I had so much fun at this film. I think the comparison to Star Wars is very apt. I've noticed a lot of people complaining about the simple story, but I didn't view it so much as predictable as using a classic story structure. In spite of knowing what was going to happen, I was wrapped up in the story (much like Star Wars!). The visuals certainly didn't hurt - rather than sticking all these effects right in your face, they created an immersive world. I thought that was very cool.

It'll definitely beat Titanic, because it's already almost there, and Titanic had DVD sales and shit. It already beat Dark Knight by like $300 million, although I'm pretty sure that was a joke, but Titanic is currently the #1.

Woops. I forgot Dark Knight had best opening weekend or some shit. For some reason I thought it got most sales as well.

Keep in mind though, it's like $12 for fucking tickets to Avatar. Titanic it was still $6 or so.

you miss the whole 3d aspect then frost, unless you manage to get one of those new 3d monitors, a card supporting it, and a torrent with 3d possibilities. i'm not even sure if the last one's available.
even then, it wouldn't come close to the theater 3d.
not that i'm too eager to see it, but you can't compare experiences.

CNN: Avatar causes depression, suicidal thoughts

James Cameron's completely immersive spectacle "Avatar" may have been a little too real for some fans who say they have experienced depression and suicidal thoughts after seeing the film because they long to enjoy the beauty of the alien world Pandora.

On the fan forum site "Avatar Forums," a topic thread entitled "Ways to cope with the depression of the dream of Pandora being intangible," has received more than 1,000 posts from people experiencing depression and fans trying to help them cope. The topic became so popular last month that forum administrator Philippe Baghdassarian had to create a second thread so people could continue to post their confused feelings about the movie.

If you're so depressed over how pretty a movie is and get suicidal, go for it.

Suicide is a right that every person should have and exercise if they feel it is what is best for them. It's the mark of an enlightened society to let a person do what is necessary to remove their own pain.

You've seen Spirited Away too? I fucking love that movie.

But I'd rather take inspiration from it than depression. Try and make this world a little better or different. Don't just whine about it.

Agreed. That's complete bullshit.

Well, its the mark of pessimism winning out over optimism, I guess.

Pessimism always wins. The unhappy thread is younger than the happy thread, and it's got far more posts than any other thread on these hurr forums.
