Industrial

Postby Astica » Mon Oct 13, 2008 9:39 am

I started listening to a couple of industrial bands a few years ago but its not a genre I've really heard much of, but it seems interesting.

Can anyone recommend any decent industrial bands?

i'm not usually into industrial, but i usually like grendel and :wumpscut:.
some seem to think icon of coil fits in, and i know a few that really like VNV nation, those are names i know offhand.
then there's covenant, and c-drone defect, assemblage 23, and apoptygma berzerk.

so, list:

grendel
:wumpscut:
icon of coil
vnv nation
covenant
c-drone defect
assemblage 23
apoptygma berzerk

that's about what i can remember.

people have a lot of different interpretations of the word "industrial" when it comes to music. like i wouldn't call VNV nation or assemblage 23 or the like industrial because they are just too trance influenced. wumpscut is badass though, especially the album "music for a slaughtering tribe".

anyway, i don't know what you're referring to when you say "industrial" but i will put in my two cents anyway.

- skinny puppy
- einsturzende neubauten
- scraping foetus off the wheel/you've got foetus on your breath (same guy, different artist names - he goes under all sorts of stuff but this was his best era)
- throbbing gristle
- laibach
- test dept.
- SPK
- NON (technically noise music but fuck it, it's awesome)

The group Laibach was established in the year 1980 in Trbovlje, an industrial-coal mining town in the centre of Slovenia (YU).

Ma homelandcitah gave birth to awesomeness! (:

The only bands I've heard that according to Wiki are industrial: Prodigy, MSI, Misery Loves Co., Velvet acid christ, Emilie Autumn, Nin, Dope stars inc., Deadstar assembly. I dislike 99% of them.

Laibach is the close second great thing from my town; former president, RIP, was born here, too.
I, of course, am number one, the greatest thing ever from around here.
And like I said, not a big fan of indu, alternative all the way.

Edwin Hubble is from a city about 90 minutes' drive from where I live.

The guy who played the butler dude on Adams Family is from where I live. (Can't remember the character's name, or the actor's name for that matter.)

wayne,
indust is indeed a rather broad term, but vnv nation seems to be mentioned fairly often (whether it's liked is quite another thing, im not that fond of it myself, either).
yeah :wumpscut: is great, skinny puppy too, i think.
what do you think of grendel? quite fond of it, myself.

ast,
how come the sudden turn to industrial?
and what bands you know?

listening to their stuff on myspace now, i generally don't like this kind of stuff (again, too trance influenced) the vocal effects are cool but honestly all they do is make me want to listen to skinny puppy.

Alternative to what?!?

I definitely wouldnt call Emilie Autumn industrial, Im meaning industrial more like Electronica.

El Schlong came from my little town.

Oh yeah.

@Azgarth: my "sudden" interest in industrial comes from an interest to try a newish genre I suppose.

i just realised how stupid a name "electronic" is for a genre of music. i mean really, almost all music is electronic nowadays in one form or another.

wait.. you've been here for a couple of months now, right?
and you still think there's laws?
you just get scolded for being stupid, that's all, and you're familiar with it.

wayne, iunno about "all", i go to live acoustic blues sessions regularly, nothing electronic there (well, in some cases that is, most put it through speakers or sorts, but not with the smaller stuff).

All recorded music is electronic. Small acoustic shows are not. People peddling for money on the corner with their guitar are not, usually.

Regardless, yes, electronic is far too broad to be used on the narrow scope that it is.

Why do I get the feeling you and I probably mean something completely different when we say electronica and that my idea is probably the wrong one?

my interpretation of electronica is like dance-orientated music. i had a feeling you might use it as a catch-all term for electronic music, as some people do, hence the clarification.
