If America was filled with Americans like us, I don't know if it would be better or worse, but it would be extreme, whichever way it went.

@Kex: you miss my point, astoundingly.
@GC: elaborate? What am I missing? More than MD and pop culture, I think studying the american media this year is what has sparked my opinions. And comparing it to my country.
@Offtopic: do you guys have any idea how many psych majors are churned out each year? Its the same in New Zealand, too. Hurrah for psychology, but people who learn other things are also needed. You guys better be getting some pretty good grades to be competing with all the other psychs out there.

There are so many things wrong with that statement that I wish I didn't have a headache so I could properly spell it out. I'll just have to hope someone else can do it.
Is there a promised land
Or am I on the journey going to nowhere?
Are the streets paved with gold
Or am I slipping on the mold that slowly grows there?

Personally, I'm going to probably minor in Psych next year, just to take the classes. I would never want it as a profession, the people I'd be willing to help are the ones who would refuse to get it.

@Astica: I joke, get over it.
I wonder if the media in your country gives such a realistic view of what the people and culture are like to outsiders? I know mine probably won't.
I've actually come to find the majority of MD American's are the most down to earth and sane one's i've talked to. Now hopefully I'm right, because if you lot are crazy then chances are I am too.
There are of course the angsty assholes, who for no other reason are like that because they like the way people see them because of it.
But you get these kinda pathetic runts in all cultures.
Lol, we're all a little crazy. I suppose it's just how much you can put it to the back of your head.

Except it'll be my major, and it'll be in two years.

I'm not sure what I'm majoring in. Probably some kind of arts. I also want to be a detective, but I don't know if I can do that without being a police officer first. I'd avoid being a run of the mill street cop if at all possible.

Astica wrote:@Zyn: if you wouldn't want it as a profession, why are you majoring in it? What are you going to do with that degree?
At this point, I may just leave it as a may-be-useful thing. I'm undecided, though, whether I'm just getting the degree for the hell of it or if I'm going into psychological profiling.

Degrees cost lots of money. "For the hell of it" is a bad idea when you'll spend the next few years of your career paying it off. Although if you're around the age I think you are, I guess you still have quite a bit of time to decide.

I have enough to major in one thing for the hell of it, my second one HAS to be serious.
