Newby to the forums

Postby indigogirl » Fri Apr 14, 2006 2:58 am

Hallo,

I am new to the forums (the whole website really), but have already surfed through alot of stuff on (incl the guidelines). I was afraid to post something due to the amount of hostility I have noted, but am afraid no more (I dont take long to get over stuff).

I was just going to stay in the background but have decided to introduce myself properly.

I was born and raised in the Nether Lands but my family decided to take their lives away from the corruption disguised as tax, and moved to an island in the Pacific Ocean. If anyone wishes to know any more than that, feel free to ask.

Are you sure there's no corruption there?
Anyway, you're the first person I ever welcomed. Welcome!
Is college cheap in the Netherlands?

Welcome to the boards. Thanks for reading the guidelines.

Thanks for the welcome guys (not intended as discrimination between sexes).

Miscellaneous: I haven't lived in Holland for 18 years and haven't the foggiest of how much college costs to attend, not much better than where you are I bet.

Corruption is cheaper where I am now. I get to keep just over 75% of my hard earned wages. Don't have a family or partner, so that means I get to keep 100% of my taxed income. Sorry if it sounds like I am rubbing this in, but a friend back home (however long ago, my roots remain the same) earns alot less per hour and gets to keep about 60% of her earnings. NOW THAT MUST SUCK!!!!

I don't have a job but I HATE income tax already. That is the stupidest tax ever.
And college. Too expensive in America. I need to get a loan for that, then a mortgage for the house, then if I have a couple of kids their college and crap. When I pay that off, I'll go to Florida and die. What's the point.
Okay, minus the kids and Florida. I'll try to have a happy life. That's what vacation's for!

Hi again Evil Todd

Miscellaneous: You can make the choice to never get married or to have kids. Even though I have it pretty good here (fantastic by some standards judging from some posts on other threads), I am thinking of using my retirement money to immigrate (yet again, still Dutch citizen) and retire as cheap as possible (still deciding on final resting place as I am only a resident where I live now).

I dont know anything about what the expenses or tax rates are where you stay (presuming at this stage the US?). Where I am it is much cheaper to rent than to buy due to the market cycle (having said that, house prices are going up & so is rent). Petrol prices here are rising tremendously, although still shit loads cheaper then elsewhere in the world I have noted (could this be due to the fact we get the dregs?). It looks like immigration may be something you would like to consider for now far want of escaping your situation (not saying this will solve all your probs, though).

I already immigrated from Europe. Where to now??!! WHERE?!
You just can't find a cheap place to crash.
Anyway, of course I won't get married or have kids, thanks for helping me clear that up! :)
And I'm lucky since my parents have a house here (Chicago) and an apartment in Europe, so I have the choice to go back. But, I think I'll stay in America. I want to move to L.A., though.
If only we could all win the lottery.

Lucky, you too have the ability to go back to Europe, just like me. Once you find a place you really like its hard to move away from the idea of comfort.

I see where you are coming from. Los Angeles is a pretty big and I am sure you'll be able to find someplace where you will have your needs (and wants perhaps) met.

Hope it works out for you. Keep me posted.

Awww guys, thanks for the hospitable welcome.

Devil: I did note that you are from Holland as well. And yes, I can still speak Dutch, however much it has faded, everytime I go back, it gets more fluent the longer I stay (I go back rarely nowadays, too expensive sinbce the euro got introduced, I hope they'll skip it eventually). Very, very nice to meet you :D

It is much easier to buy pot than shrooms I'll agree, but I found that someone (especially those who come from ethiopia & while you are staying in Amsterdam) will eventually appoach you with cocaine & crack offers hahaha (it was fun for a little while).

Although in New Zealand pot is illegal (not that that seems to matter much here), its just as good as that from Holland and we dont mix it with tobacco (ie make spliffs), although you get those that managed to leave the country and they decided they wanted to do things like europe does. Would you believe that approximately 75% of this country has tried or is currently smoking pot (only about 4.4million people in the entire country though)?
