That's what I really never liked about martial arts and what I kept telling my karate teacher when I was in it. You got a gun, you got a bullet, you kill Jackie Chan, and the game's all over. None of this "HI-YAH!" bullshit. Just <bang>, and the black built with 5 championship wins to his name drops like a fly.

I was too much of a realist for my class. Only one ever the teacher actually kicked out and refunded the money.

that's why it's good that we have a realistic teacher who tells us that if we're up against a knife or a gun it's better to either run and yell for help or stay calm and do what they want. Fighting is a last resort

You'd probably have to be sniping or a safe distance away. Because if they see you have a gun pointed at them, theres a chance they'll break your hand before the gun hits the ground...

I've seen demonstrations.

I doubt that.

Maybe if you're stupid enough to be 2 feet from the guy.

In my training course for work we got taught the 21 foot rule. It takes you 1.5 seconds for you to draw aquire and fire resonably accurately. In that time a person can move 21 feet (7 meters ish) and get to you. So you had better be that distance and a little bit away to be using your sidearm. Mind you the same instructor told us that if the assailant has a weapon don't hesitate to shoot him from any distance because you can be sure he didn't bring his weapon just for show and tell.

Your reaction time and good judgement would have to be really good for you to notice they're drawing a weapon Ashreal, otherwise you'd be running and attacking the guy for a false reason...

And I would still push you over and shoot you in the leg. Hard to do a roundhouse kick when there's a slug in your femur.

Practise, sight, aquire, fire, repeat until hands are sore, ears are ringing, legs are tired and you don't have to think about doing it. Your hands just do it automatically.
